Wentworth Institute of Technology. Spring 2022. Sophomore level (ARCH 2500). With J. Ellis, J. Lee, J. Allen, G. Pingree, N. Mehrotra and B. Mitchell.

From the course syllabus: This studio course explores architectural design through a series of problems increasing in scale, complexity and length throughout the semester. Through text, drawings, diagrams, and physical scale models, students learn to describe how multiple factors, including the dynamic between the built and natural environments, are integrated in the design process and outcome.

The students used an assigned precedent to write a brief history describing the methods and criteria used to assess building envelope technologies against design, economic, and performance objectives. They also drew a building envelope assembly at a level of detail and in a manner that uses conventions of architectural documentation to describe the components of the assembly from interior to exterior.

Through hands-on assignments, the students studied mechanical properties of built objects and represented their observations and inspirations graphically and physically. Subsequently, they designed a teaching museum for the mechanical arts at the MIT campus.
