Qeshm Island, Iran. 2025. Built.

Tabl Office is a small, local real estate office that brings cultural awareness and care for Qeshm’s identity into the place where decisions about land are made. It is meant as a space for conversation and learning about responsible land use, fair transfer of ownership, and the importance of local identity in every transaction, so that the island can modernize without losing its villages and traditions.

The interior is built around palm-leaf weaving, or hasir, the craft behind the baskets, mats, trays and bags sold in the island’s markets and used in its homes. Here the same craft is scaled up to architecture. Woven panels sit within a plain timber frame, and each bay can take a different weave: coiled trays, plaited mats, hanging pouches, bundles of reed.

Their colors, textures and small irregularities give the room warmth and rhythm, and the material and its techniques come from the island itself. Light timber furniture, soft upholstery and quiet walls make a calm setting around a shared table. A map of Qeshm runs across one wall, so every property discussed in the room is seen within the island’s villages, roads and coastline. Small as it is, the office treats real estate as a piece of cultural infrastructure: a place that asks buyers, sellers and developers to see land as part of a living place.
